What do you need to bring to class:
§ Watercolour Papers o There are many types of watercolour papers available in the market, from affordable student grade papers to expensive high quality cotton-made artist grade papers.
o I recommend: ▫ Schut Terschelling (Student Grade) ▫ Bockingford (Artist Grade Grade) ▫ Saunders Waterford (Artist Grade) ▫ Fabriano Artistico (Artist Grade - currently my favourite) ▫ Arches (Artist Grade)
o You can either buy watercolour blocks or full sheet papers. Please cut them in half as we will work in half-sheet.
§ Brushes o Watercolour brushes have soft bristles made from animal or synthetic hairs.
o I recommend: ▫ Flat 1½ inch ▫ Round No.12 ▫ Round No.8 ▫ Round No.4 ▫ Round No.2
§ Watercolour Paints o Watercolour Paints come in tubes and pans, and range from affordable student grade to professional artist grade.
o Locally available brands include: ▫ Van Gogh, Winsor & Newton Cotman, Daley Rowney Aquarelle (Student Grade) ▫ Daley Rowney, Winsor & Newton, Rembrandt, Schmincke, Holbein, Old Holland (Artist Grade)
o I recommend buying tubes and the following colours: ▫ Lemon Yellow ▫ New Gamboge or Cadmium Yellow ▫ Alizarin Crimson ▫ Scarlet Lake ▫ Ultramarine Violet ▫ Cerulean Blue ▫ Cobalt Blue ▫ French Ultramarine Blue ▫ Prussian Blue ▫ Sap Green ▫ Yellow Ochre ▫ Burnt Sienna ▫ Sepia ▫ … and any other colours you fancy!
§ Others o White mixing palette (Plastic or metal) o 2B or 4B pencils o Rubber Eraser o Paper towels or Tissue papers o Old cotton cloth o Own drinking water o Food, if you’ll get hungry during the 3-hour course o Lastly, a happy & positive attitude. See you in class!
Note: Over the years, I have noticed that although cheaper materials are easier on the pocket, it is recommended that you purchase the best quality materials you can afford, poor quality materials tend to cause bad results and hinder your learning process.
